Ad Nauseam Dept.
Sick of banner ads pumped full of promise and puffery? Whatever happened to so-called "truth in advertising?" In the 1960s, David Ogilvy, founder of Ogilvy & Mather, one of the world's most successful ad agencies, criticized the lack of creativity among his Madison Avenue colleagues by reminding them "the consumer is not an idiot, she is your wife." Ogilvy must be rolling over in his grave with today's banner ads, pop-ups, pop-unders and spam. So take a look at these fake banner ads and see if they aren't a bit closer to the reality of high-tech. And feel free to add them to your own site with a link back to www.valleyofthegeeks.com.
